Extract from Man Kwok Yat Po, Canton. 15th August, 1927.
The workmen on board the steamers of the Hong Kong
Canton and Macao Steamboat Company turn out victorious
in their strike.
The strike of the seamen on board the steamers of the
Hong Kong, Canton and Macao Steamboat Company was properly
settled between both parties on the 6th instant, and an
agreement was signed on the 6th floor of the Asia Hotel
(Canton). At 11.30 a.m. on the 14th the Seamen's Union
convened a Grand Conference in celebration of their victory
in the strike. Those who attended the meeting numbered over
400. Lam Yun
Lam Yun presided and Wong Long made a report as to
their victory. Speeches were delivered, and after a tea-
entertainment and the taking of Photographs, the meeting
took a drive round the City in 45 motor-cars decorated with
flags, firing crackers in celebration of their victory.
